Shrimp fishing in mexico

Crustacean species that are caught, the brown shrimp accounts for 90 percent of production; this fishery generates more than six thousand jobs during the season.
CONAPESCA enforces established standards for the extraction of the crustacean and INAPESCA provides technical support to maintain the availability of the resource.

The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) reported today begins the period of fishing for all species of shrimp from Tamaulipas to the mouth of the Coatzacoalcos River in Veracruz state, which allow producers to capture large sizes and higher commercial value.

According to industry information, more than a thousand 800 fishermen made the capture of the crustacean in producing areas of the Gulf of Mexico, where an effort of more than 200 vessels and generating six thousand 200 direct and indirect jobs are estimated at benefit the regional economy.

Among the varieties of shrimp caught in this landlocked country highlights the coffee (Farfantepeneaus aztecus), which represents 90 percent of total production in the Gulf of Mexico.

The application of the closure of brown shrimp can protect the main biomass growth (volume) that migrates from the lagoon to the sea, optimize the benefit of productive sectors, promoting the capture of shrimp increased size and commercial value and protect reproductive process.

For the conservation and sustainability of the resource, the National Fisheries Institute (INAPESCA) provides technical support, which allows for measures to ensure the commercial availability.

Compliance with the rules established to promote responsible and sustainable fishing is in charge of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA), whose surveillance operations are carried out in coordination with members of the Mexican Navy and authorities of Tamaulipas and Veracruz .
